Port Eliot Festival 2014
If Narnia had a backstage, the Pencil Atelier in the Wardrobe Department at Port Eliot is a huge part of it. For the third year, our creative director Jenny Dyson and her team of makers and doers helped kids to design and make their very own bespoke frocks. Using gingham, neon fabric paints, paint brushes, potatoes, neon gaffer tape, dressmakers calico and four hand operated vintage Singer sewing machines.
After two days of fashioning and making labels which were hand stitched into the outfits, Homeland star Damian Lewis introduced the Pencil fashion show, our annual kids chic shebang with front row spectators sipping Sipsmith G&Ts on our makeshift hay bales.
Inviting kids to be at the heart of the creative process and to be involved in the making is the key to the magic. Letting their imaginations go a bit wild within the guidelines of our OCD moodboard [spots, stripes and zigzags only] resulted in a beautiful collection that many of the grownups wanted to steal.
A big thanks to our atelier team, [Cath Kidston, Penelope Tree, Dot & Charlie Jones, Jessica & Amelia Pemberton, Jessica Swinton, Neil Gow, Lulu, Etta Bradley, Amanda Riley and Bumble] and see you next year!
